"Educational research is a careful and critical inquiry or examination in seeking facts or principles of educational problems"

According to J.W Best research is an intellectual activity which brings to light new knowledge or correct previous errors and misconceptions and adda in an orderly way to the existing corpus of knowledge"

The term 'research and scientific methods' are often used synonymously and research is considerd to be more formal, systematic intensive process of carrying on the scientific method of analysis.

Some Connotation Of Research

Research - A Genuine desire to obtain more information.
C.C Crawford University of southern california writes that "Research is simply a systematic and refined technique of thinking, employing specialised tool,instruments , and procedures in order to obtain adequate solution of a problem than would be possible under ordinary means it starts with a problem , collects data or fact,analyze these critically and reaches decision based on the actual evidence.

Research -A method of critical thinking
Research constitutes a method for discovery of truth which is really a method for the discovery of truth which is really a method of critical thinking.It comprises defining and redefining problems, formulating hypothesis or suggested solutions, collecting , organising,and evaluating Data, making deduction and reaching conclusion, and at last testing the conclusion to determine whether they fit the formulating hypothesis.

Better Utilization of Research Findings

There is much that the social scientist have to do by way of establishing research traditions and helping create expertise in different disciplines. The generation of knowledge in different in different areas of development is bound to induce a climate favourable to the utilization of research.
In particular , attempts have to be made to establish a closer link between the user and the researcher.This will bring about an appreciation of the kinds of research that could be useful to the user and also result in better formulation of research problems, in addition to helping the social scientists to gain credibility in the eyes of the users.
